School Daze

May 02, 2004

Ron went to the McAllen High School to put some of the candidates for the McAllen ISD School Board together in a forum to discuss the future of schools here in the Valley, and also whether the current special session of the Texas State Legislature would be detrimental to President Bush's reelection efforts of winning the Hispanic vote.

Interviewed for the McAllen ISD School Board Place 4 election were candidates Danny Reyna, Richard Moore, and the Incumbent School Board President, Alex Palacios.  Interviewed for the McAllen ISD School Board Place 5 election were candidates David Salinas and the incumbent, Sarah Tippit.

Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts, Carole Keeton Strayhorn also weighed in on the special session on school finance, and the possibility of President Bush being hurt by it.  As is her fiery, Texas straight-talking style, she comes out with some hard statements against Governor Perry's actions with the current special session.
