Working on the Railroad CommissionJune 06, 2004Texas Railroad Commissioner Charles Matthews joined Ron on this edition of Valley NewsLine to discuss the ever-increasing seamlessness of the border between Texas and Mexico. Something that truly unites the United States and Mexico are rail lines, which are necessary "veins" for the transport of products from one country to the other, and the Texas Railroad commission knows cross-border realtions better than almost anybody else. Commissioner Matthews elaborated on these relationships and also elaborated on the oil and natural gas pipelines that are being constructed from Mexico to the United States. According to Commissioner Matthews, in parts of the last two years, Mexico has been the biggest exporter of oil to the United States, is the biggest exporter to Texas, and the Railroad Commission had historically set the prices of gas here in Texas until OPEC became a significant force in the world, but there are still opportunities to be grasped by huge oil reserves in Mexico, the fourth or fifth largest of the world's oil and gas deposits, according to the commissioner! Also discussed was the upcoming Texas Trade and Investment Mission 2004, which will feature Texas Governor Rick Perry as a host this June 23-25 in Mexico City.
