Voting the Bond: UTB/TSC

October 24, 2004

Before getting into the current bond election for UTB/TSC in Brownsville, Ron interviewed Lisandro Ramon, the Chairman for the Willacy Spaceport Project, on the recent launch of a manned personal spaceflight from the Mojave desert of California, and the subsequent visit to his offices of GovernorPerry concerning development of a commercial space flight launch area to be located here in the Valley!

Concerning the Bond election, the President of UTB/TSC, Juliet Garcia, and Chester Gonzalez, the Chairman of the Board of UTB/TSC, came on the studio set to tell Ron the importance of most of Cameron county's residents to vote "yes" on the current bond election to provide the expanding university with $68 million for construction/acquisition of land, buildings, parking lots, and a bigger library.  With Brownsville's current population of 175,000 people, experts have calculated that the population will likely be 500,000 by the year 2030, so it would be wise to plan ahead for developing the educational basis for training the citizens of cameron county to meet the anticipated needs of such a large population in the future.  Commenting on why to vote either "yes" or "no" were Senator Eddie Lucio, Fred Rusteberg, President of Brownsville's International Bank of Commerce, and a few citizens from Brownsville.
