RGV Prepares for US-VISIT

Attending the recent conference on US-VISIT hoted by the Border Trade Alliance at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce on November 22, 2004, Ron interviewed P.T. Wright, the Executive Director for the US-VISIT Program for the Customs and Border Patrol uder the Department of Homeland Security. Presented with the many concerns of economic fall-out and longer border delays, Mr. Wright explained what the process will be like for those who have to comply with it, as well as allaying fears that this program will harm our economy. US-VISIT goes into effecct at many land borders on the Rio Grande here in the Valley on December 31, 2004.
Presenting their concerns and issues with this program on this show were also John Wood, a Cameron County Commissioner, Mike Perez, the McAllen City Manager, Eric Adams, the new chairman for the Border Trade Alliance, Mike Allen, the President and C.E.O. of the McAllen Economic Development Corporation, as well as a customs Broker from Mexico who is a frequent visitor to the United States, Ana Molina, and Elizabeth Costello from the City of San Antonio's International Affairs Department.
