--When children are admitted to a hospital, it can be a very traumatic experience with all of the other patients and medical equipment which can be seen. One solution that Valley Baptist Health System has is to design an ER section specifically for children, which would allow the children to bypass the regular ER which could be used for "grown-ups" only.

Their vision is one of colorfully painted walls and ceilings, toys, a less medically obtrusive atmosphere, and a child-patient-only environment that will calm fears and help speed the healing process of children admitted to their hospital.

To bring awareness to the community in the Rio Grand Valley, and also to help raise funds to support their project, Valley Baptist Health System held their 6th annual Children's Gala with a western theme for children.

Joining Ron for this edition to explain the vision of a kid-friendly ER and the goal of the 6th annual Children's Gala are Sherry Russo, RN, Director of Emergency and Trauma Services at Valley Baptist Medical Center (VBMC), Child Life Specialist for VBMC Maricella Medina, and one of the "cowboys" for the Gala's horse roping event, Ruben Basaldua of Elliff Trailer Sales in Harlingen.
